Beginner's Solution
Step 1: Cross


The first step to solving a cross using the LBL method is to build a cross on the first layer. Cross is made up of 4 correctly positioned edges, each joining to the center of similar color on the side surface of the cube, as shown in the left diagram.

This is the easiest step because you can disturb the cube any ways you want to position only 4 edge pieces correctly on the first layer. It can be of any color. However, most commonly, white is the preferred color. I started with white and have been then solving the cube with white cross too. Hence, I will use white as the first layer cross color throughout the tutorial.

This step is purely intuitive. Place the edge one at the time into the correct position. Do not panic if you can't get it during the first few tries. Here are some situations that you might face when solving a cross:
