Step 1 of Ortega's Method is to construct a same color sticker on the D face intuitively, with minimal steps. Notice that I put white as the default D color but in practise you should be color neutral when solving 2x2. Look for the color that allows you to build the D face with minimum steps. Keep the color in mind so that when you move on the next step to orient the top layer, your eyes will be looking for stickers of the opposite color of D face that you chose.
