OVERVIEW
The method that I'm going to introduce here is known as the Ortega's method. It is actually modified from Victor Ortega's corner first method in solving 3x3x3. It's a very fast method, though they are other faster ones out there such as the Guimond, EG and etc. Many prefer the ortega's method because it's very similar to the 3x3x3 fridrich method in terms of visualization as well as algorithm execution. Furthermore, there is only a very minimal list of algorithms that you have to learn, compare to other methods with insanely long list of algorithms to memorize. Using ortega's method, with little effort, one can average about 5 seconds.
Ortega's method contains 3 simple steps:
 |
(1) D FACE
this step constructs a solved side on the bottom of the cube without taking consideration of its side permutation. This step is done intuitively. |
 |
(2) OLL
this step will orient the opposite top layer. There are 7 different OLL cases. |
 |
(3) XLL/PLL
this step will permute both layers at the same time. There are 5 XLL and 2 PLL cases. |
